A follow on from Smart Goal Setting – before setting a goal, think about your emotions and what the goal means to you. It must fulfil your emotional needs and fit your personal values and beliefs.
If your goal is to be happy, what is happiness? An alternative is to be excited – the opposite of being bored.
“Excitement is the more practical synonym for happiness, and it is precisely what you should strive to chase. It is the cure-all.” – Timothy Ferriss
We are often advised to just create ‘realistic’ goals but on the other hand, if you think of an ‘unrealistic’ goal right now – visualise this in your head, does it excite you?
Unrealistic goals create the adrenaline rush and enthusiasm needed to endure the challenges and hurdles along the way, whereas realistic goals restrict ambition & can be uninspiring.
Write down an unrealistic goal, with realistic steps to achieve it.
As an example, dropping to 14% body fat, getting a 6-pack and having the confidence to do a photo shoot was an unrealistic goal I had a few years ago, but it happened because I found excitement in what I was going and a passion to push beyond my comfort zone.
Be ambitious, trust yourself that you can achieve what you set your mind to achieve, and learn what it is you really really want and what excites you.
