Our thoughts connect our feelings and behaviours so the first step towards achieving your goal or desired outcome will be taking on a positive mindset. Telling yourself that you are capable and can overcome any obstacles that get in the way. Positivity leads to improved emotional wellbeing which can have such a big influence on your general health.

If you believe it will work out, you’ll see opportunities. If you believe it won’t, you’ll see obstacles.          (Wayne Dyer)

When I create a programme for clients, a major focus is obviously on consistency with exercise/physical activity and calorie intake but we are complex human beings and there are so many other factors that can influence long term goals. I want to help people understand why they are doing what they’re doing, how to overcome obstacles on the path to where they want to be, and believe in themselves that they can get there.
What motivates or serves as a barrier to one person is very different to the next person.

Stress levels, Personal life, Work commitments, Sleep pattern, Nutrition, Hydration, Social interaction, Relationships.. there are so many factors than can influence our mindset and success in achieving our goals, whether they are fitness, health or lifestyle goals.

I often ask my clients to have a think about this question – what is your “get up and go”?

What is going to motivate you to make the changes you need to improve your health and fitness?

Maybe this will be:

  • Thinking about the sense of accomplishment and satisfaction you will feel afterwards, what you see the progress you’ve made.
  • Creating a daily task list and being able to tick things off the list.
  • Focusing on your ‘WHY’ – recognise what’s driving you and visualise that end goal in your head – being a fitter and healthier version of yourself, being happy with what you see in the mirror, being able to fit into that dress size, having more energy to play with your children/grandchildren, having more self confidence..

What’s your why?

Once you have that end goal in mind, we can create an action plan made up of small, manageable steps such as getting yourself into a regular sleep pattern, hitting your daily step target, practising mindfulness activities, doing a few extra workouts, finding foods and meals that you enjoy within your calorie target.

Achieving your goals doesn’t have to take blood, sweat and tears – it takes an action plan and consistency!

Dream big, write down your goals, break it down into small steps, work on these every day and you’ll be surprised how much progress you make – and how much happier you will feel!
