I want to talk about The 4 S’s (lifestyle factors beyond exercise, diet & hydration) which I’ve personally realised are so important for good health – STRESS, SLEEP, SUNLIGHT, SOCIAL INTERACTION.

Stress – I’ve been letting stresses of life get to me recently, how do you overcome stress and not let it turn into negative vibes, low mood & ill health. I’m still learning myself but if you aren’t in a position to eliminate the stressor (work pressures, deadlines, uni, people, relationships) then learn to develop your mindset and the way you view the situation. If it’s not going to affect you in 5 years don’t let it worry you now, if it might then channel that anxiety into action right now and create a plan to deal with the issue. Be thankful & show gratitude for what you have and the opportunities you’ve been given. This can turn a negative situation into a positive. Identify whether it is DEstress or EUstress – eustress can be healthy & a stimulus for personal growth such as constructive criticism, demanding physical training, being pushed to exceed limits & get out of our comfort zone.

Sleep – regular sleeping pattern, consistency and getting enough sleep will allow your body to rest and recover.

Sunlight/Vitamin D- I’ve not been doing my morning walks so spent minimal time outside. VitD is essential for survival & good health, associated with improved immune & bone health, mood & wellbeing and increased cognition.

Don’t let go of your goals and vision, use whatever position you are in to seize opportunities, learn from mistakes or difficulties & become a better version of yourself.
